Of Baby Showers and Baby Things

Today is Mandi’s baby shower for her baby boy, Lucien (due sometime in the next two months or so). For those of you not in the know, Mandi is a highly capable young woman and the wife of D. They were married earlier this year at a beautiful ceremony in the Hunter Valley.

Seeing as I’ve never attended a baby shower before, this was certainly an experience. Like Hen’s parties, there seems to be a semi-unwritten rule that attendees must all be female. The decorations were in blue and white – understandable since Lucien is going to be a boy.

It’s very strange attending a baby shower full of people in the medical profession. One of the games was an ABC’s of birth, which ended hilariously when various medical terms flew through the air. A is for Afterbirth, B is for Birth Canal, C is for Chicken Pox … E is for Epidural, F is for Forceps … J is for Jaundice … N is for Nitrogen Oxide… etc…

Great fun was had by all. Blue cupcakes were served, as well as tea and coffee. There was much to do with present opening as well. Many people gave multiple things.

I was lucky enough to get in touch with a fellow knitter (who made numerous things for Mandi’s baby) and received a pattern for a Star Trek baby onesie. Guess who is getting that for Christmas!
