Things to do on a Monday Night… Shake Your Tail Feather

Most people find Mondays to be the most awful days of the week. After having rested over the weekend, one has to drag oneself out of bed early and crawl (or walk) to work. Having done so, there’s always the unfortunate fact that you’re pretty much stuck at work for the next five days of the week.

Terrible, isn’t it?

Still, if you’ve any energy left after working on a Monday, why not make tracks for Vbar and learn to dance?

Salsa dancing classes at VBar are run by House of Mambo, a nifty company founded by dance teacher Graeme Haney. The lessons are run by Mr Haney himself and instructions are easy to understand. There are two levels of classes – beginners classes start from 7 PM and intermediate lessons continue on at 8 PM.

If you’re already familiar with salsa, it’s worth coming to the beginner classes just for the warm up. The classes are held throughout the year and absolute beginners are welcome to join at any time. Salsa is not a difficult dance to learn and once you get used to the rhythm, advanced spins and techniques become second nature.

After classes, House of Salsa also runs non-stop dancing until midnight, so if you’re in a mind to dance the night away, you’re welcome to. Alternatively, Vbar is good for is its rather nice selection of cocktails and flavoured martinis, so there’s always the option of relaxing in the lounge with a drink in hand.

House of Mambo also runs mambo dancing lessons in Darling Harbour on Mondays. You can get more information at their website,

Vbar runs Happy Hour just before salsa classes. If you’re in a drinking mood after your Monday, check out their selection at
